Murder Mystery books launched!

Murder Mystery Books

The applause dies away and the cast take their leave from the room. Another hugely successful performance from Murder by Design – First Call Entertainment has ended. PC Bailey, the bumbling, yet charming, Devonian copper has, once again, just about, managed to piece together the clues and uncover the murderer and the audience can sleep safely in their beds. But many of the guests want more and happily return, time after time, to witness another story unfold before them and over the past two years they have also been able to purchase three books directly from www.amazon.co.uk and read the back story to some of the most often performed and well-loved murder mystery stories. Readers can pick from “Murder on Safari”, “Who killed Santa Claus?” or the chilling “Mucklington Murders”. The murder mystery books can be searched directly as PC Bailey Mysteries or under the name of the Author Christopher Mills who is often found playing the part of the real-life PC Bailey in the performances up and down the country.

Author Christopher Mills is often found playing the part of PC Bailey

When asked, what made him decide to write the books he commented, ‘I have written thirty storylines so far and we have performed them over 900 times and I have been asked on several occasions by people that have enjoyed the evening, if they could buy a book, so I thought why not?

I began with “Murder on Safari” because it is one of our standards, and everyone has such a hoot trying to get to the bottom of the dastardly deeds that have happened during a village meeting, that for me it was the obvious choice.

It has been great, to have performed in a couple of events recently, where people have come up afterwards, and said that they have purchased the book and yet that they still wanted to see the live event because the two complement each other.

Sales have been brisk which is great and I plan to add to the collection at a rate of one per year until I run out of stories!

Murder Mystery Bristol

Perplexing murders occur in Bristol

The smart money was on the wife of the lord of the manor – surely, she had bumped the old boy off and then she would get her hands on his money. But then, the vicar seems to be hiding a lot about what really happened when the old girl finally gave up the ghost and what about that gardener – is he for real.

This has all the makings of a mystery and that’s exactly what it was because, Murder by Design and 1st Call Entertainment were at it again performing yet another thought provoking, highly entertaining, murderous adventure for an audience that hung on their every word. You could hear the conversations around the room as the death count rose and the clues were discovered about how people had got their theory all worked out about who was the clever killer that was bumping off the suspects under the very eyes of the audience and that bumbling copper PC Bailey.

Bristol would never be the same after this highly polished bunch of performers had come to town with their original brand murder and mayhem mixed with a generous serving of fun and the ability to not take themselves too seriously – this is entertainment after all!

New public murder dates coming! – Murder Mystery Bristol

Just when all the evidence piles up against one shady character, a shout rings out and at the far end of the room the very suspect who is as good as banged to rights keels over with a knife sticking out of their chest. Oh, no it’s back to the drawing board again for the super sleuths but, time is running away and the killer must be brought to book, before this evening is out.

Who can it be, who is the one who is telling a clever web of lies, who has the motive, whodunit?!

Murder Mystery Bristol Hippodrome

Curtain up on the Hippodrome’s best-kept secret! – Murder Mystery Bristol Hippodrome

Not wanting to rest on their laurels as the premiere theatre in the Southwest, the Bristol Hippodrome has added something new to its repertoire this season. Now while you relax for a drink in the popular ‘Hanover Street Piano Bar’. Which forms part of the ground floor of this famous Bristol landmark, you just might find that you have entered the world of Murder, Mystery and Intrigue because the Hippodrome are staging a series of Murder Mystery Birstol Hippodrome evenings. The events began running in late 2016 and will continue through 2017 with a varied menu of murders being performed by 1st Call Entertainment’s sister company Murder By Design, who are one of the longest continually performing murder mystery teams in the world (so there!)

As you get accustomed to the friendly atmosphere of the Piano Bar, you will enjoy a very decent three-course meal while the larger-than-life characters weave the murder plot throughout the evening. One minute you are talking to the Gardener who appears daft as a brush and then the next minute, a scream rings out and there is a body lying on the floor in front of the bar – what is going on? – well while you are trying to fathom it out, help arrives in the form of a bumbling PC Bailey who tries his best to put the clues together and somehow, with a lot of help from the onlookers, he finally seems to piece it all together and the murderer is revealed – phew close call, for a while I was sure it was that woman or perhaps the young man – but then once the clues fell into place it had to be the other one with the scar….

Must make a note to book again – though it will be a different story next time but whatever the story, a guaranteed great night of entertainment will always be there. Who would have thought a theatre bar could be so interesting!?

Bristol Murder Mystery nights

Bristol Murder Mystery nights

Bristol has a long and interesting history dating back to Anglo-Saxon times, when a settlement grew up between the Rivers Avon and Frome, known as Brigstowe (a place of settlement by the bridge). The settlement grew as trading with Ireland and the ports of South Wales developed. After the Norman Conquest of 1066 a castle was built on what is now known as Castle Park.

Bristol is one of our major destinations to perform murder mystery nights. Bristol is steeped in rich history it includes once being home to the second largest port in the country, being home to many of Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s work such as the SS Great Britain, Temple Meads Old Station and large amounts of contribution to the Docks.

Home to now one of the top red brick Universities in the country it was established in 1876 as a University college and in 1909 was granted the Royal charter by King Edward VII and named the University of Bristol. The University was heavily supported and made possible by the Will and Fry Families who made their fortunes in tobacco plantations and chocolate.

Some of our favourite venues to perform are:

  • S. S Great Britain
  • Mercure Grand Hotel
  • Bristol Marriott Royal Hotel
  • Clifton Pavilion at Bristol Zoo
  • @At – Bristol
  • Holiday Inn Hotel, Filton

We had a fantastic 2016 and are looking forward to more performances in 2017 at more of these beautiful venues.

Somerset Murder Mystery

Four funerals and a bride, a Somerset Murder Mystery!

Oh dear, the Bride looked so forlorn, it was her big day after all but, the Bridegroom is looking very poorly, her father has gone off on ‘important business’ and missed the ceremony altogether and now her bridesmaid has gone missing. But not to worry, because this was the latest performance of a Somerset Murder Mystery evening from 1st Call Entertainment and Murder by Design, set against the fabulous backdrop of Ston Easton Park nestling on the Mendip Hills in-between Bristol and Frome.

The guests attending the event, were members of the general public who were wined and dined with an exquisite menu and top class service at this wonderful hotel, as PC Bailey went about his business and eventually managed to work out who the villain was but, not until the bodies were really piling up around him and the guests were beginning to wonder if there would be anyone left at the end, except the murderer! In fairness, that would have made the bumbling policeman’s job an awful lot easier, and he really needs all the help he can get.

As the evening culminated in a thrilling denouement, with the policeman looking pleased and somewhat bemused, with the murderer apprehended, the assembled guests breathed a sigh of relief and felt it was safe to venture out onto the gravelled drive and make their way home. This might have been a wedding that they would sooner forget but many voiced their praise for the murder team and made sure that they took details of future dates in early 2017 when Ston Easton Park plan to host their next night of murder, mystery and intrigue but all over a very decent three course dinner and some rather fine wine of course.

All aboard in Bristol for Murder!

A frightfully fantastic evening at the World famous s.s. Great Britain!

A chilly Friday evening at the Bristol Harbourside aboard Brunel’s great ship the s.s. Great Britain was the latest venue to host an evening of mystery and murder from 1st Call Entertainment and Murder by Design. It’s 1937 and the Black Funnel Fleet are holding their annual dinner, a grand affair by any stretch of the imagination, black tie and tiaras the order of the day. But what’s this? Capt Nelson has obviously spent far too much time in the bar by himself; he is going to be a handful and he could really let the side down badly, unless he is stopped…

The Chairman Lord Fortescue-Smythe is delighted that his niece Kitty is able to join him although he is less than impressed that she has brought along her fiancé Maurice Leyton, there’s something about that lad that his Lordship doesn’t like, but he is going to find out tonight!

There is tension in the air and no one feels safe and even less so when the first body is found.

But have no fear, PC Bailey is on hand to blunder his way through this great ship, eventually discovering the clues and finally he is able to say whodunit?
